Here are some sad facts to reflect on (every day is a learning day!):
It is estimated that around one million species are currently at risk of extinction, which is an alarming number.
Habitat loss, climate change, pollution, poaching, and illegal trade are the main causes of endangerment of species.
The current rate of extinction is estimated to be between 1,000 and 10,000 times higher than the natural rate.
According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), more than 27,000 species are threatened with extinction, including over 40% of amphibians, one-third of all reef-building corals, and a quarter of all mammals.
Some of the most endangered species include the black rhino, the Javan rhino, the Sumatran tiger, the mountain gorilla, the Chinese giant salamander, the vaquita (a small porpoise), and the pangolin.
Endangered species play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of ecosystems, and their loss can have far-reaching consequences.
Conservation efforts, such as habitat restoration, captive breeding, and anti-poaching measures, can help to protect endangered species and prevent their extinction.
A damning indictment of humankind!
So today, I thought that I would generate some images of endangered species, and give them a little twist to highlight their fragility.
